As part of its 90 towns project intervention, NHC intends to develop nearly 40 (2 bedroom) units to help alleviate the housing shortage experienced in Kisii town.

The site is situated at Nyanchwa area hardly 2 km from the Town Center. The proposed sites currently accommodate 6 NHC rental bungalows which are to be demolished to pave way for the modern units.

The 2 bedroom room unit design can easily be altered to suit market response and demand. Each room is accessed independently from a common hallway. This arrangement allows for independent use of each room without cross circulation and sharing of the common facilities in the hallway. The units were arranged so that 4 units on a floor share staircase and a common courtyard to initiate social contact.

The compounds will be secured and ample parking space provided for each unit. Facilities for clothes drying, children play and landscaping will support the comfort living within these units.

The scheme will offer affordable houses with the advantage of being 2 kilometers from Kakamega town and in the neighbourhood of Masinde Muliro University.

Site One – Phase I:

This is 1.2 acre land located next to the NHC Amalemba Tenant Purchase scheme and is currently occupied by two old NHC rental bungalows, one of which is dilapidated and not habitable. The site is generally at with red volcanic soil. Major essential services like water, sewer, electricity and telephone are either connected or easily available.

The first Phase of the scheme will commence on this land and comprise 80 (2 bedroom) flats in four 5 storey blocks. The redevelopment project will redensify and optimally utilize the land while improving on the area value.

The Project was jointly identified by NHC and the Ministry of Roads, Public Works and Housing as part of the Government's effort towards the delivery of 150,000 housing units annually.  The site is Located in Mamboleo area of Kisumu about 6 Km from Kisumu City It is proposed to develop a mixture of Site and Service Plots and starter units are at various stages of completion. The Project was the first to be launched by H.E. President Mwai Kibaki in August 2003 .

Plot sizes of 10m x 24m have been adopted in this Scheme.  The complete 3 bedroom unit is individually located on the plot.  Care has been taken to allow for cross ventilating within the spaces to suite the hot and humid conditions.  The complete Bungalow measures about 90 sq.m.
