  1. What is the difference between NHC and HFCK?
    •  The National Housing Corporation (NHC) is a public owned enterprise whose principal role is to develop decent and affordable housing. It is the principal implementing agency of the Government housing policy, has put in place a programme of facilitating interested people/institutions to help realize the current objective of building 150,000 units per year.

  4. What is the procedure for applying for a house?
  5. What criteria is used to determine who qualifies for a house?
    • The Allocation Committee manages the house allocation and determines the criteria to be used for housing allocation. The Committee comprises of the Managing Director, Financial Manager, Company Secretary, Chief Estate Officer & Legal Officer.
  6. How long do I have to wait before I can know whether I have been allocated a house?
    • The Allocation committee members meet after 3 months of ground breaking to allocate houses to deserving and qualified applicants for any housing scheme in place.
  7. If I am not successful, do I get my entire deposit back with interest?
    • No, the full amount will be refunded without any interest.
  8. Why not sell the houses on a first come first serve basis?
    • So long as the applicant meets the minimum set requirements, the allocation is done on first come first serve basis. To ensure equality, the Allocation committee determines the method to allocate houses for any of the schemes.
  9. Do you have model houses for the selling schemes?
    • In most schemes, a model house is provided for upon commencement of such a project.
  10. What is your interest rate?
    • The interest rate varies over time but is presently at 13%.
  11. Do you provide mortgage facilities?
  12. Can the Corporation finance someone to buy a house with another developer?
    • No, does not provide for such a facility.
  13. Can I pay part of the 10% down payment required and clear the balance later?
    • No. The application form must be received together with the requisite deposit.
  14. Do you have a program for the civil servants?
    • NHC caters for all Kenyan (Wananchi) .
  15. Why is your Rural Peri-Urban housing loan too low at Kshs. 1.5 Million?
    • The Rural Peri-Urban housing loan is to help one to complete, extend and or improve on an existing house. However, it is  reviewed form time to time.

  17. Is your loan on a reducing balance?
    • Yes
  18. When you give the Rural Peri Urban loan, what grace period do you give one before starting the loan repayments?
    •   1 month after loan disbursement.
  19. What is the maximum for the Rural Peri-Urban Loan repayment period?
  20. What is the age for one to qualify for the Rural and Peri-Urban Housing Loan?
    • Eligible applicants must be over 18 years of age at the date of application, but should not have attained the age of 70 at the time the loan is redeemed.
